Description
In 1915, the film Birth of a Nation bewitched America and swelled the ranks of the Ku Klux Klan, which has since been feeding on the darkest thoughts of white people. Across the country, the Klan sows terror and unleashes itself on former slaves, determined to bring hell on Earth.
But the Ku Kluxes aren't immortal. Standing in their way are Maryse Boudreaux and her fellow resistance fighters: a sharp-tongued sniper and a Harlem Hellfighter. Armed with guns, bombs, and a sword imbued with ancient magic, they hunt down those who hunt them and send the Klan's demons straight back to hell—all while a horrific plot is brewing in Macon and the war against evil is about to erupt.
Phenderson Djèlí Clark offers us a story in which he skillfully mixes history, magic and Lovecraftian horror.
