In my childhood, I was shown many stars. I admired them, I dreamed of them: Socrates, Baudelaire, Einstein, Marie Curie, General de Gaulle, Mother Teresa? But no one ever told me about black stars. The classroom walls were white, the pages of history books were white. I knew nothing about the history of my own ancestors. Only slavery was mentioned. The history of blacks, thus presented, was nothing but a valley of weapons and tears. Can you name a black scientist? A black explorer? A black philosopher? A black pharaoh? If you don't know, whatever the color of your skin, this book is for you. Because the best way to fight against racism and intolerance is to enrich our knowledge and our imaginations.
