Leo Proudhammer, a famous black American actor, finds himself immobilized after a heart attack. He recalls his journey, from his childhood in Harlem, his bohemian youth in Greenwich Village and his love for his white partner Barbara. This novel about the chaotic rise of a man also questions the tensions between communities in a society gangrened by hatred.
