The Wretched of the Earth by Frantz Fanon

Published in 1961, at a time when colonial violence was raging with the Algerian War, seized on many occasions when it was published by Éditions François Maspero, the book Les Wretched of the Earth , with a preface by Jean-Paul Sartre, had an exceptional destiny. It served – and still serves today – as inspiration and reference for generations of anti-colonialist activists. Its analysis of the trauma of the colonized within the framework of the colonial system and its utopian project of a revolutionary third world bearing a "new man" remain a great classic of third-worldism, the capital work and political testament of Frantz Fanon.

In this edition, the preface by Alice Cherki, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, author of Portrait of Frantz Fanon (Le Seuil, 2000), and the postface by Mohammed Harbi, a fighter from the very beginning for the liberation of his country and historian of contemporary Algeria, author of Une vie debout. Mémoires politiques 1945-1962 (La Découverte, 2001), restore the importance of Frantz Fanon's thought.
