Description
The lodyans is an art of the short story, an art of the miniature. If it cultivates the ellipse and prefers the oblique, it nonetheless says reality better than one would achieve by approaching it head on. Georges Anglade here becomes a lodyan maker and transposes into the field of writing this very Haitian oral practice, born in a country where one can die from having "spoken too much". The thirty-four lodyans that make up this collection paint some of the countless faces of Haiti and trace a journey that goes from childhood (Quina) to exile (Nédgé), via the dictatorship (Port-aux-Morts). Each shard of these three mosaics is like a line in a dotted line. All that remains is to fill in the "blanks" that separate them from each other to obtain the whole drawing, to explore these holes in memory, where color is never an innocent thing, so that a whole world begins to live before our eyes.
