Description

Children's book for ages 8 and up Originally from the island of Madagascar, Olivier Le Jeune arrived in Quebec City in 1629 as a slave. He was 10 years old. Beyond his status as a slave, he was the first person of African origin to live permanently in Canada. This book, inspired by his real life, follows Olivier Le Jeune's journey, from his capture in Madagascar to his arrival in Quebec City.

We learn how he was able to adapt to his new reality in the early days of New France. Webster is a hip-hop artist who is passionate about history, particularly that of the black presence and slavery in Quebec. He set up the Qc History X guided tours, a guided tour of Quebec City on this subject.

A native of Quebec City, Valmo lives in Montreal where she maintains a passion for illustration. After studying at the Cégep de Sainte-Foy, she worked in the video game industry, where she developed her pencil strokes for 14 years, before creating a world of her own.
