This book revisits certain aspects of history: colonial conquests, slavery, empires, the Code Noir, the instrumentalization of science and religion, post-decolonization and the plundering of natural resources, the theft of African heritage… It examines the invisible intellectual mechanisms that underpin the domination of whites. It designates the ordinary racism of our societies, woven from a succession of small facts that are sometimes known, sometimes not at all: black football players greeted with cries of monkey, discrimination in hiring, police checks based on appearance, policy of “quotas” for minorities…

One day I asked my oldest friend:
— Pierre, are you aware that I am black?
- Yeah.
— But if I am black, what are you…?
— Well, I'm normal.

That funny word, "normal," was like a detonator for me. I realized abruptly that white people do not see themselves as white and, more broadly, that they are not aware of the position of domination in which history has placed them. Yet, when asked: "Would you like to be treated as society treats black people?", all without exception answer: "No." It's good that they know. But what do they really know? And why do they accept it?
