Mohammed El-Gorani was no more than 14 years old when he left his native Saudi Arabia to study English in Pakistan. Shortly after the attacks of September 11, 2001, he was arrested and transferred to the American military base at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. In this new penal colony where the law no longer applied, he was one of the youngest prisoners, and one of the only blacks. It would take eight years for his innocence to finally be recognized.
