Negritude is an eloquent example of the male preponderance in the evolution of Francophone literature and the late consideration of female literary production in Africa in particular. The development of Francophone literature in the last two decades, however, reveals another trend which attests to the diversity and complexity of the field, now occupied with uncontested authority by classic authors such as Maryse Condé, Calixte Beyala, Tanella Boni and Véronique Tadjo.
