Description

Flowers for Heroes is the novel of a generation of writers, poets and artists, who were suddenly confronted with the dark. It brings back to life the circle of poets of Literary Haiti, and those close to them. It tells a few weeks in the life of a political cell of the Popular Entente Party, a Communist Party founded by Jacques Stephen Alexis, who himself died in 1961, led by artists who wield the pen as well as the Molotov cocktail, the Colt or sticks of dynamite.

It is the novel of a painful failure, that of the political and armed struggle against the regime established by François Duvalier from 1957, particularly in the years 1964-1966, during which the regime reached the height of violence, paralyzing the vital forces, and terrorizing the population...

But Flowers for Heroes is first and foremost a very beautiful novel, harsh and without concession of any kind, in the image of the poet Anthony Phelps, whom no seduction, no suave attempt by Duvalier's successors could make bend, or above all silence.
