Description

[...] The author of this poem is this young man of twenty-two who took everyone by surprise by publishing in Port-au-Prince, forty years ago, a slim collection of poems with an enigmatic title: Idem (Imprimerie Théodore, 1962). Idem means the same. A few years later, he added a sort of postscript under a title almost identical to the previous one: Ibidem . Always the same. And then nothing.

What happens is that these poems have begun to grow like a climbing plant around my heart; squeezing it to the point of suffocating it. There is a poem in this collection, "Pétion-Ville in Black and White," which seems to me to be the most luminous snapshot I have read since fists clenched in my burst pockets from friend Rimbaud.

And this man has lived for more than twenty-five years in Montreal in ignorance of everyone. The difference between Davertige and Ducharme? Ducharme strangely hides his body from the public while revealing his most secret part, his soul. We know neither his body nor his soul about Davertige. A secret poet walks freely in Montreal. This way of losing oneself in the crowd reminds me of Pessoa.
