“We all have a body. Some use it like armor, others think very little about it. We can take care of it, intentionally hurt it, make it up, make it lose weight; we use it to hug, to shout. It is our image, but is it the image of what we really believe we are, under our skin? I am obsessed by the idea of the body, this place to which we are forced, which brings us unhappiness and pleasure, which we can modulate infinitely by adorning it, even by operating on it, but which we can never completely change. I talk about it in all my texts, sometimes even in spite of myself, and I search in the books I read to see what the experience of the body is for other writers. That is why I wanted to ask authors whose work I admire to also explore this theme. Bringing together big names in contemporary Quebec literature as well as emerging authors, Corps seeks to show moments of inhabiting the body. Some authors approach it head-on; others, more obliquely. Laughing and desperate, these texts show how inhabiting a body is as solitary as it is universal, as tender as it is violent. - CS-B.
