The texts of these three blues singers who embody the roots and identity of African-American musical culture to extract the substance of the claim: autonomy and equality. By crossing the historical, social and political context of the time, from the 1920s to the 1940s, the author demonstrates that the blues is the music of the emancipation of Blacks and even more so of women.
