A bookstore where authors from ethnic communities would be in the spotlight. This is the project of Gabriella Kinté, a 28-year-old determined to enrich the literary offerings in the neighbourhood where she grew up. A few years ago, the young woman, who studied social work, realized that she did not recognize herself in Quebec popular culture. In theatre and on television, diversity was absent. The same thing on the shelves of libraries in Montréal-Nord, where she grew up. “My friends and I were looking for books from diverse backgrounds and there were none,” she notes in an interview with La Presse . “However, online orders are not accessible to everyone; you have to have a credit card.”
