This essay on the history of black communities fills a gap. Indeed, Canadian books rarely mention the presence of blacks in Canada. The black, in the Canadian imagination, is still perceived as a recent immigrant. The pioneering works of Marcel Trudel, Robin Winks, Colin A. Thompson or even Dorothy Williams, Daniel Gay and James Walker among others reveal to us, however, that the presence of blacks dates back to the beginning of colonization. The history of blacks is thus an integral part of the history of Quebec and Canada.
